I think I see geometric distortion (stretching) in this area when you pan? I think scan non-linearity in a tube pickup can cause a difference in sensitivity in the area with a different scan speed.

You are right about stretching! Actually all CCD-M8u cameras (I think) give some kind of vertical image stretch.
Here is a video by another guy. The stretch is noticeable but no light stripe.

Perhaps the vertical stretching is the camera making up for a lower resolution image sensor?

I don't think that's what was meant - it was horizontal displacement (non-linearity) within that bright vertical strip on the left I was talking about.

Nice camcorder..Both of my uncles had the V3 camcorder.

I have the Kodak 8mm Camcorder which was from 1984.I t was a dumpster find back in the early 1990's .No CCD in this set.It was a old fashion pickup tube job.
