The 'projection' system reminds me a lot of the Philco Safari...I wonder if they had the good sense to use the same magnifying optics that made the picture appear to be 17" from a normal/optimal room viewing distance?

First time I saw this thread. Glad it got resurrected and I got to see it. Of course, "projection" is a misnomer - it's a magnified mirror reflection.
