The ironic thing about all this, to me, is that if these jokers put half as much effort into making a living on the up & up as they do dreaming up these scams, they'd make Trump look poor...

I rarely answer numbers I don't know. I keep getting calls from out of state numbers.
A few calls I have answered are robocalls, but they have some sort of voice recognition system, because it is clearly a recording and not a person on the end. But if you ask if it's a recording, it says "no sir, I am a real live person". And then says "Can we begin". But if you keep asking too many questions it just hangs up. |

Also don't overlook the pre-recorded script, played back in segments by a live person. So person listens to comments/questions, and triggers appropriate non-emotional, pre-recorded response.

My response is usually "hello". If I got such a call and knew I was being called by a scamming computer I'd probably say in my best Jimmy Carl Black as Lonesome Cowboy Burt imitation "speakin' Atcha! What can I do you fer?"
Given the land line is the folk's if I answered that I'd probably say "they are not available presently I can take a message after the pen clicks...Click". One thing that drives me up a wall is some of the family cell phones including mine are still on our old numbers from when we got the phones back when we lived in moron-land Florida. I've long lost count of the number of wrong numbers from that area code that have dialed me....Sometimes repeatedly. You know you live among dummies when a good percentage can't dial a phone or give/take a number correctly. Quote:
My folks had similar happen some years back, mom handled it in a more proper, but much less amusing way.

IMHO NO amount of torture & agonizing PAIN is even adequate for these yahoos. Again, I just wish WE could have all the tricks of the trade that THEY do to annoy us. NoMo Robo is a good start, though. I'll give it til the end of the year B4 it gets swamped; overwhelmed. Somebody oughta set the big shots at ATT, Sprint, Horizon, et al's posteriors alight. I'm only about half kidding on this- The Phone Cos are all complicit in this & should be made to pay DEARLY.

I know some of them, and I also have my awesome secretary, Mrs. Miller (10 seconds of any track makes them never want to call me again). And sometimes their phone systems also aren't secured (I know how to speak telecom systems reasonably fine). I love forwarding their system to a equivalent of a 1-900 Dial A Porn number in Southwestern New Zealand at NZ $99 a minute plus international airtime. And changing their PBX into a payphone.

One thing I've noticed is that getting in touch w/these guys is almost impossible-Even supposing they actually had something I wanted Looks to me like that if one of these numbers was set up this way, where you could NEVER get in touch w/them, that should constitute pure fraud & should leave the phone company open to a raft of lawsuits, etc. If there was some way we could force the phone cos into wasting their time by cleaning up constantly over what these butt-munches were doing, they'd drop 'em like hot rocks...

A few years ago - had one of the Microsoft calls that showed Microsoft in WA as the caller. There was a woman with a thick Indian accent, saying "You are having a computer problem! Right! And I believe you use Windows XP or Vista". I blew hard into the phone - silence and then I hear "pshhhhhhhhhhh!" as she blew back. lol
Another time more recently, got one that claimed I was having a network security issue. I told them I had an Apple. Then I blew into the phone and hung up. They kept calling and blowing back at me until I left the phone off hook for awhile. |

Phone scams? I took the liberty to really mess around with them lately. Enjoy! And yes you get to see me on camera.

I actually enjoy doing this to them. |
