Looking for Zenith Substitution Part Chart
I have part of the chart, but it only goes so far. I want to know if the 9-83 vertical module has a newer version that can be used in the 25EC58 chassis. It was quite helpful in finding a subcarrier module that had its own shielding. Figure that if I'm looking at fixing my current module I might as well see if there's an updated version somewhere.
Thanks

marked 9-27 X IIRC. Your set should have had one from the factory. There is another version but I dont remember the part #, looks very different. The C line sets had a different vert module but wont sub, the controls are off board. 9-83 may be the only one as the D & E line sets were it for flat chassii. Newer uprights all used 9-92 / 9-147 totally different till the in-line CRT's came out & the 9-120 series came out. The big thing to watch for is the 9-57-VCR. Its a newer hoz module piggy backed on the old style. Cures the flagging problem on VCR's. If you do find one be sure the right thing is in the box, NOT just a 9-57 dud. Also I want to see one so we can make some up. 73 Zeno. |

I was looking for the 9-57-VCR module when my RCA VDT-350 was having issues, but it turned out to be the VCR, not the TV. A few tweaks here and there on the VCR and the problem is gone. Still keeping an eye out for that ever elusive VCR module, though. If I can't find a new vertical module, I'll go ahead and rebuild it. I'm thinking I should be able to find a new module for about the price it's going to cost me ordering the parts and shipping.

The board you have is a 9-69 IIRC not 9-27X
The "new" 9-27 was probably used & the old 9-69 went in the box for core credit. It never did. CAVIAT EMPTOR !!! Zenith OEM modules were sold to dealers at Suggested list price. If a board costs you $25 you sold it for $25. When you returned the dud you may get an $8 credit, that is your profit on the part. Normally you write "dud" on the box & it either goes back or get repaired when it was slow. So when buying modules its very hard to be sure what you are getting. The E-bay ads mostly show it isnt the old TV man selling them but some one with no knowledge. Small Zenith modules will be neatly wrapped in tissue paper. But thats not the last word, it may have been tried then swapped back out. It may also be an unmarked dud if the paper is missing or messy. 73 Zeno |

Odds are the 9-69 is the latter module ( higher part ## ).
Why it seemed to come up randomly & never took over is beyond me. The 9-27 goes back to the first 4 tube hybrid ( B line) through the last hybrids in F-line. 9-69's seemed to pop up randomly but they may have been used on specific runs for unknown reasons. or use was stopped for unknown reasons. 73 Zeno |

I'm looking in my Zenith Sub book.
A 9-83 has NO sub A 9-27 will sub with a 9-27X or a 9-69. What does your schematic show as the correct module for this set? IIRC your set is a flat chassis. |

Does color of the board mean anything? I notice that some boards are you basic brown and others are white and green. Is that something that denotes age? Seems the brown would be older than the colorful white and green.

This is the only substitution sheet I have. I don't know if it's complete.

Here's the CRSP pages for the mentioned modules. The 9-83 is an orphan - used on only a few chassis, and no upgrade/replacement.
