1986 RCA Color Trax Television Set

Does anyone know where this particular 1986 RCA Color Trax TV ranked in the line of TV's for those days?

The Model# of mine is GLR689PR.

Did they have a good picture tube in them or did they have an okay one?

It seems to me that there is alot of difference in the Picture on my 1986 RCA and mine folks' 1991 Zenith Sentry2 Console TV.

The RCA produces colors that resemble more of the old color photos from the 1970's and 1980's to the Zenith's more modern color scheme of broadcasts.

All I can tell you is that '86 was the last year for a "real" RCA (GE bought RCA sometime in '86). I can't tell you how high up your set ranks; but, RCA's from this era were generally decent and the CRT's held up fairly well.

The set uses a CTC120 chassis. It was the bread & butter set for RCA.
There was a top of line chassis also that was in the cube style
sets, BIG consoles & IIRC a 19". Had some common problems but
was predictable & I dont remember any dogs. Never got "ignored"
on the incoming shelf. I would put it with Zenith all & all.

I agree on the pix. RCA always had a distinctive pix up to the
CTC169 & was quite pleasing. Zenith was brighter & more
contrasty, with deeper colors IMHO. Either way its a matter of taste.

Old shows like bonanza will show the RCA style pix on any set.
Great care was used in clothing, props etc back then to show color
at its best & RCA was very much behind most of it. I was watching
a poor copy of one of Bishop Sheens shows the other day.
The color was still natural & pleasing even on a poor copy.
