Japan Radio Corp used to make REALLY High-End Ham stuff back in the day. They also had a line of sets starting w/the NRD-515, in the late '80s-early 90s. They went to NRD 545, one of which I have. It is possibly the ONLY line of sets that are on a par w/the old Collins Boatanchors of yore. I have turned down $2500 for mine-It was right at $3K, new, if THAT tells you anything. I think they have completely gotten out of the ham/SWL stuff, which is a SHAME...

Plus they made some *really* expensive, high quality shipboard/government/ham with deep pockets receivers that were outstanding! Here is a fairly late model (last?) :

This is my 2nd JRC/NRD receiver. 1st one was an NRD-535D, that had Lightning come in on it. Learnt my lesson the Hard way, stuff is ONLY plugged in if I'm wanting to use it right then. Both of 'em looked inside like the REALLY High Class TOTL electronic stuff they were..
