Grundig Model 5017 U Stero

A few days ago I got me a "Grundig Model 5017 U Stero" made in West Germany with FM on 88-108 Mhz (the majority of the radio made than had FM on 87,5-100 MHz). On it is says that is stereo, but does it works stereo on the radio? It haves 2 keyes PU Mono and PU stereo (PU=Pick-Up aka Record Player, Phongraph).

What a coincidence! I've got a proxy bid in on a Grundig radio that may be very closely related to yours if not the same. It also says Stereo, but it appears to only have the one speaker up front. However, I noticed two grills on the sides, but I'm not sure if they're actually speakers, but merely vents. Also, this one had the 88-108 range - it has to be the same one.

The one I saw was in perfect working order and sounded great. Fingers crossed that I get it for my bid - $50

88-108 would have been an export (US) model in those days. A lot of these had provision for stereo with an optional plug-in multiplex decoder. VERY few were sold with the decoder. Two amps, so stereo is available with an external source.

Well, it looks like I won the auction for mine - $20

I pick it up tomorrow, can't wait to crank her up for the BBC. They are also throwing in a smaller transistorised Radio Shack multiband radio, mid-70's vintage with manual and in good condition, so I'll have fun checking the SW bands, etc.

I'll report on it when I get it home.

Cheers, and best of luck with yours.

Telecolor- "BC" in this connotation means "BroadCast Band"- standard AM. I think in Yoorup you guys call it "Medium Wave". Also means "Before Christ", but I think we can go w/broadcast band safely here. On dating this, if its tubes, probably not much later than 1970. My uncle had a Grundig tabletop stereo radio-also had a shortwave band or 2 on it-I think he got it about '66 or '67, & it most certainly had tubes. Even had one of those funky "eye" tubes. Super cool!! I used to LOVE to play w/it- beautiful sound. In fact it got junked in the mid '70s because a tube burnt out & "they aren't available any more". Whoever was supposed to fix it just didn't want to mess w/it, and a beautiful sounding, performing & looking set went to the dump. Or not-they probly just told my uncle that & kept the damn thing for themselves....wish I had it now. It had that mirror-like wood finish, think it was real walnut. Good luck w/yr new prize-I'm kinda jealous !!<grin> -Sandy G.

Information on Grundig 5017 Stereo:

http://www.radiomuseum.org/dsp_model...model_id=22103

You'll need to join to see schematic and larger photos.

And as I suspected, this model WAS sold in the US. It is listed in the Sams Photofact index. Although I have several hundred, I don't have #556-9 (1962), which covers this model. Perhaps someone here has it?

Yep this Grundig has the tuning eye where the two light beams meet in the middle - that's particularly cool.

I'll post pics inside and out tomorrow - I won't sleep tonight thinkin' of it. Kid at Christmas over here :-)

What makes me sad at the same time is that no-one else there wanted it. On this Island there are so few people with any appreciation of anything other than Bose Wave Radios and plastic junk CD stereo boom box type thingies. I'm just glad that I was able to rescue it myself.

Cheers

There are three Blaupunkt Sultan models listed in the Sams index: 2320, 2623, and 20203. Find the model nmber of yours and I'll tell you the number for your schematic. And I just may have it myself.

Hmm, mine says Type 22203. If you do have that one, it would be most appreciated. Mine does work, but will need some attention to the tuning mechanism. I'll have time to crack it open tonight, at which point I'll start a new thread and post nudie pics.

Thanks

Yes, here in Europe we call the BC MW (Medium Waves)-the Romaninan name for Medium Waves is "Unde Medii".
I saw in a tv repair shop near me a "Blaupunkt" tube "console"
(it haves only record-player-tape recoder not included) made for USA-FM not avaible, with AM Stereo!!! It costs 2.000.000 lei (apox 60 $), but I don't have money to buy it and no room to put it (I live in 3 room flat in an apartament block, like the majory of the Bucharesters).

But what for where used "Socket for channel". I saw that my radio haves input/output for record-player and tape-recorder.
And what ment "channel" on FM? My radio got FM 88-108 Mc
and Channel 200-300.
