TV no one remembers, not even the internet LOL!

Back in 1987 I purchased a TV from a shop on Hollywood Blvd. It was a Kenwood KMT-1026. I had it up 'til 2000 when I gave it away. The other day I was going down memory lane and tried to remember the model number. I searched the internet, but you would think Kenwood never had a TV with their name on it. I searched ebay and found squat. It wasn't until I remembered model number things moved along. However, even with the entire model number, I was only able to find an owner's manual on ebay. Not pics on google, no other real results on any searches.

Anyway, seems kind of odd it is almost as if this set never existed.

I've attached a scan of an old pic of TV. My best guess, 1994.

It probably barely existed & the name may have been rented out
to make a few bucks. Never saw or heard of one. Be interesting
to see who built it.

I think it was NEC-built but not sure. We were a Kenwood authorized service center back in the day and I recall seeing a Kenwood branded TV or two.

Wish I had kept it. Didn't think I'd want an old CRT once I got a rear projection, then LCD, plasma and now OLED, but I have a couple and use them regularly for old media and video games.

I corrected a typo in the model #. It is a 1026, not a 2026. That was the higher end model with speakers up front. I did manage to find on ebay a 1986 kenwood video brochure. It features the top corner of the TV on the cover and specs on the back. However, the seller put up a low res and slightly blurry image and no images from the inside what would show the set.

I have a Video Magazine buyer's guide from 1988 that I saved. It has listings for the Kenwood TV line including a couple of AV systems. There are pictures of the KMT-2026 but none of the 2016A. The same issue shows TVs from Pioneer and Yamaha and a Technics AV system, so there must have been somewhat of a push for audio companies to come out with video components at that time.

These were at the end of the component TV try. Some like Zenith
had separate tuners, monitors, audio, switchers, MTS decoders etc.
Others were just full TV,s with lots of features & jacks. The
original idea was to be able to put the best mix of brands like
you would with stereo components.

What is funny is the part about it being cable compatible. I assume it was for some systems, but not Communicom in Los Angeles back in the late 80s. The TV had three f-type connectors on the back. You put the cable from the wall into the first, then the input of the cable box connected to the second, with the third coming out of the box to the TV. From there you were supposed to be able to switch the TV to ant A and be able to use the TV's tuner to view any cable channels not "scrambled." For "scrambled" you would switch to ant B and use the box with TV on channel 3. I tried this and every morning my box wouldn't work. I would have to call the company and they would send a reset to the box. After this happened for the 3rd time, I figured it had something to do with the TV. So I called for tier 2 support and it seems every night the company poles the boxes. If they don't respond to 3 attempts, they disable them. So when my TV was off, the query wouldn't be passed through to the box.

Can confirm that the remote handset in the picture appears to be an NEC.

Yeah, that one is for the 2026, but the 1026 is pretty much identical, but more square around the edges. It is odd how the 1026 has a removable glass front. I guess they wanted a flat look. It did look cool back then.

Kinda looks like a JVC; aren't/weren't Kenwood and JVC in bed with each other ?

Back around 2000, my electronics instructor in college gave me a Kenwood-branded set that was very similar, if not the same set. The one he gave me was in a wooden (well, particleboard) cabinet and I think it had a glass in front of the CRT. It was definitely an NEC-built set. Unfortunately, it's long gone now.
