Safe in Extreme Cold?

I've built a little collection in my garage here where it's 20 degrees outside these days. Probably around 30/35 degrees in the garage.

Question - Is it safe to turn my CRT's on in such cold?

Normally when I hang out there I put on a couple of space heaters for a couple of hours before turning them on but I was just curious about any risk associated with cold weather power-up...

You should have no problem at all.
If you bring one in from the ice cold you may get condensation
in it In below zero weather we asked our customers to let them
warm up a day before using.

Lytic electrolyte can freeze and become ineffective.

Also any vacuum tube with build flaws that could cause fracture or implosion is more likely to fail the larger the thermal transition it experiences....such as -20 to 100 something during warm up...It's not guaranteed to cause failure but does increase the likely hood.

Agree with Zeno. Wait until they get to room temp before power up..Its even in the instructions when set is new,,I had plenty sets in my storage bins for years and they were OK except a few needed work done on them..

I remember the stories my late TV repair friends told me.Back in the 1960's where customers with cold house would crack some tubes in their sets if they kept their furnace temp to low in the winter....

Yeah, I remember when e got my 1982 model on April 4th, 1983, we let her sit for an hour or two to warm up, IIRC, it was cold that day.
