[QUOTE=radiotvnut;3040992]Probably the nicest console I own, a 1960 Motorola.
Do you have the model number on this unit? I have one in excellent condition that I want to restore but the badge is missing. I am looking for an owners manual as well. Thanks, Nick |

1960 Motorola Drexel
Does anybody have any information on this unit? The model number tag is missing from the back. I managed to get it working, not 100%, but working nonetheless.
I would love to have an owners manual for it so that I know what parts to get, etc. Willing to purchase. The one tag on the back says Winner Mahogany Award, 1960. I found the VM cartridge replacement after a long search and just installed. The sound is a little muddy, although it could be years of being spoiled by digital clarity. Plenty of bass, but lacking on treble. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Nick |

Motorola Speakers
I would lie to replace these speakers as well. There is a 6x9 and a 4" in each door and they are run through a capacitor. Does anyone have an recommendations on what I could use?
The speakers are wired through the hinges as contacts since there are no wires to the hinged speaker doors. Do these contacts need to be cleaned as well? Nick |

Regarding the speakers, I wouldn't replace them. That 6X9, with the inverted magnet isn't all that common. Try to clean the corrosion off, using some kind of solvent. Try not to breath it, as it's somewhat poisonous. Also, clean the hinge pins for the best contact. |

Those magnet-in-front-of-the-cone speakers (the oval) were a Motorola thing. Are those the only speakers or are there woofers in the main cabinet? The capacitor is to allow only high frequencies to go to the smaller speaker.
EDIT: I just looked back and there's a hefty woofer in the main cabinet. So the oval is a midrange and the 4" is the tweeter.

The mid and high range are not that great which is why I wanted to swap them out. I just don't want to make a mistake and put in the wrong speaker. |

That white powder is cadmium and is carcinogenic, so be careful around it.

I could sure use the lid off of a cabinet like the one pictured. Mine came without one, and I couldn't let it go to the dump. If nothing else, I do have the hinge for the stereo!!
I replaced the capacitors in mine. The new ones really changed the fidelity for the better, and now the power transformer doesent get as warm as it did. |

RCA console
IMG_3104 (2).JPGIMG_3110 (2).JPG
Picked this up last week at estate sale across the road. Left a bid of 5 clams for kicks and of course, I got a call the next week. I also relieved the owner of the RCA empty 12" cabinet I posted in classifieds. It is a 1974 model but was still totally made in Indy! Now I need to go find some 8-track tapes The speakers are a mystery as they have biscuits around them. Its in dire need of a complete DeOxit treatment but I manage to get great sound from it anyway. The owner's manual claims "200 watts of peak music power", which probably means 50 watts RMS per channel at the most |

OK I will add my Zenith 10-S-155 to the mix. I know I am missing 2 knobs, this came out of my grandma's basement, it had been in the workshop of my Step Grandfather, covered in paint and junk. It works quite well after a full recap.

Maganvox Windsor
A "wanted poster" at the Habitat ReStore led to me getting a call on this.
it says: Windsor-Cabinet by Drexel on the Door and listed as model 306H Funny thing - it has a Webcor record player, I just need to make an offer Sophia 2011 008.jpg Sophia 2011 006.jpg |

I do like the V-M changer in it. Does it work well?
