Silvertone Console

I saw a nice Silvertone console at the local Goodwill. I did a google search and found a couple pictures of it.

I couldn't find any information on it, other than a decription of it's components: record player - radio - "wire" recorder

Wire need not be in quotes, that's exactly what it is--magnetized steel wire about the diameter of fishing line in a reel-to-reel format. Back-and-forth moving wire guides were built into the machines ensure uniform winding of the wire on the take-up reel.

Thank you for the explanation/description of the wire recorder David.. The first time I looked at the console I saw the wire and thought someone was using the recorder wheel to put line onto a fishing reel.

The wife told me I should get it....but in reality, we just don't have the room for it. Just thought I'd share my interest with it.

I remember seeing one similiar in an antique mall a few years back. The cabinet may have been a little different. I think Air King built them for Sears?
