"Overweight" Chassis

Look at this circuit board. Can you guess who built this gem?

Isn't that a 10" solid state Portacolor? I kept one in case I needed a CRT for the last generation tube type Portacolor. They used the same CRT.

Definitely GE. I've seen that board warp before. Is it cracked bad?

GE JA Chassis? Oh, the humanity.....

Definitely a GE, born in Portsmouth, VA, like me.....

I have PLENTY of spare parts for GE sets. Can you say distributor stock AND authorized service dealer stock? Sorry no main boards. Safety caps, knobs, and other stuff, yes.. PM me if you need anything.

Cheers,

Yep guys - it's a GE QA chassis, Porta-Color II, have seen Singapore stamped inside of it.

That crack only extends from the edge to that mounting hole. There may be other cracks, but I haven't taken anything out of it yet. It's one set I'd like to save but admittedly is low on the list right now.

I won't be surprised if it will turn on and possibly play.

Well, the HV section was hanging unbolted when I found it (look around 9 o'clock in the 2nd picture - you'll see it on an angle back there) so I never tried bringing it up on the variac.

Once again, if you get into and need any parts, I'm offering. Just gimme the part function - I have plenty of service info on 70-80's GEs. Most of those sets if dead needed the safety cap and the horizontal output. I've got both for your set - a PM and they are yours for postage.

Cheers,

GE is garbage but keep in mind it was in that wet ass room. I think it a keeper and if someone has parts, go for it.

Its not going to be impressive in any way. You maybe able to get a kinda color picture and that would be cool.

At least it doesnt have those metal cased pots that are ALWAYS whisker shorted. The AGC pot has been shorted in every tube portacrapler I have seen.

I appreciate the offer Bryan. This weekend or next I'll bring it in the house and see what's up with it.
