Lightning protection

I'm pulling down my G5RV and converting it to a ladderline-fed dipole. Problem is...can't find any lightning protection device for 450 ohm ladderline. The G5RV used a ladderline matching section connected to coax, so it was easy to put a lightning arrester inline with the coax, then a coax stub to the antenna tuner.
I've got a bunch of old 300 ohm twinlead arresters around...but the terminal spacing is too narrow to accomodate the ladderline. Would snipping out one of the "rungs", stripping, spreading apart slightly and then fastening to the arrester terminals work?
