I have been using VHS (playback only, of course, since the DTV transition in 2008, using a Panasonic PV-4002 VCR) for many years, along with DVD. I also have an LG BP-220 DVD player. The Panasonic VCR is nothing fancy (mono, not stereo sound, for one thing), but it will at least allow me to view my old VHS tapes if and when I want to; VK member old tv nut in Arizona has a setup similar to mine, as far as the VCR goes. The LG BP-220 DVD player handles my DVDs, of which I have quite a few (at last count I would guess 50-60 or so), and also has monophonic sound. This is no loss to me, as I am practically deaf in one ear due to a brain injury at birth, as I have mentioned here many times. My Insignia flat-screen TV also has stereo sound, but I cannot hear it in stereo for the same reasons. It is probably just as well, as the stereo speakers are mounted below the TV's display panel and are not meant for high-fidelity sound anyway. I could use a stereo sound bar, but due to my hearing problem I cannot see the sense of using one; besides, the cabinet I have my entertainment equipment (except my bookshelf stereo system) mounted in has no room for any more gear at this time.
