1985 Quasar 11" color with the remote

I picked up another set… This works as found, some controls are a bit dirty. I think this is the model that came with the remote that looked like a small copy of the tv itself. (But I didn't get the remote with it) This will be my new desk tv. It's nice to have a little more room back on my desk (I had been keeping a 19" set there)

I used to have this in beige, the blue looks way nicer. Great find!

A neighbor gave me two of that model, at one time. I think he found them on the curb. Both were a light color, white or biege. both sets were grungy and the CRT's were puke.
I seldom sent sets to the recycler, but those went! IIRC, they had coil cords on them, like some other sets, meant for kitchen use.

Those were big sellers til the Zenith "Delights" came
out. Zeniths had RAT cable ready & murdered them.
Used to get cold joints under the FBT a lot.
They were good otherwise IIRC.

Is that what they called them?
They are delightful to collect! I have five nice ones.

TP2156

I had been looking for a small TV to put on my desk. I would have gone for either a b/w or color, but if I got a color I wanted it to be one with a remote. And I like those little Zeniths but I never see them with a remote. I think its odd that Zenith made that set with so many other advanced features, and then made so few with the remote control.

When I was watching this last night it lost the vertical deflection entirely a few times. But twiddling the vert hold control always brought it back. I'm hoping a dirty control is all it is.

The last one I bought, has remote. I have to use a universal remote, as the channel up button doesn't work. The sound is a lot better than a lot of the small sets, with the side mounted speaker.

I think the reason for not many remotes is that the sets are
small & usually within reach. It may be very simple to add
if the micro is the same as the remote ones. May just need
a tiny IR receiver. You would have to compair things in
both manuals. Now that I think of it maybe the only 9"
with remote was the black AC/DC model. I just dont remember now. I do remember the later Chinese POS 9"
they sold was remote & used a different one than all other
Zeniths.

I think thats what Zenith called them but maybe it was the
Quasar. We had the special display stand & it had ice cream
cones on it. Must have been Zenith. We got our other brands
from a buying group & rarely got extras. Zenith would have had
a deal like "buy 1 of each color & mix the rest, order 24 &
get free display".

RCA made us buy 96 sets to get any promotional materials - displays, hang tags, window signage, you name it, you could have it, after buying 96 sets.
Outdoor signage was handled differently - once you signed on as a dealer or authorized repair center (more expensive option), you got a free 2'x3' lighted RCA sign for only 39 dollars. Larger signs were available, but only for dealer/repair center combinations. Looking back, it took about 3 years to sell all 96 sets, thanks to larger dealers and stores selling them for less than our costs. RCA Roomate sets - 13" an 17" sets mainly, with a couple of 19" Colortrak sets to round out the 96. No room to store them, so the first dozen or so went home for storage..
