Bad caps affecting convergence?

Can worn out and malfunctioning capcitors affect convergence? I've got a set from 1991 that I can make watchable, but I can put up a crosshatch and note it is still off by a noticeable bit

I'd say "absolutely".

Yet I'd also say that convergence is never going to be absolutely perfect everywhere on the face of the tube...if the set looks good on normal programming, I don't think I'd worry about it.

Yeah, I know there will always be compromise, but I'm convinced I can do better than what I've got.

By the way, did you ever find out what that squeaking was?

Could a mod move this to the correct forum please?
