When we first bought this house over 30 years ago I was sitting on the concrete step and grabbed the iron railing and got a shock. I got a 60 watt test bulb and put one wire on the railing and the other on a screwdriver stuck in the ground and the bulb lit up. Turned out a critter had built a cocoon in the light fixture that shorted the hot wire to the aluminum soffit that shorted to the iron railing. Darn those critters.

The jolt you get when the set is off is usually HV from the tube itself or one of the HV caps before the flyback discharging.
It hurts, we know this. I got hit once and was out cold for about 2 minutes. Since I was breathing and my pupils were responding to light...everyone left me there to just wake up. Came to...arm felt like it was burning...and it was numb. Parts of my hand...8 years later...still decreased feeling. On another story, ever try to discharge a flyback on a crt that was still powered on? Happened to me one time...the sparks were spectacular till the flyback exploded and caught fire. I didn't get a bit of shock...I just blew up a $300 video game crt. Sent from my Samsung Intercept with Tapatalk
