No go...
It was late last night and I didn't want to mess with it any further. So I just tried it again. I hooked a DVD player up to the TV and turned it on. It squealed, and after about 7 seconds it blew the 4A line fuse again. So the original problem is still there that most likely took out the original HOT then. EDIT: Actually, I just caught this now: There is a broken jumper from capacitor C3308 and a white wire just above ICX3301 (pulse width modulator). The SAMs I have is for a 9-160-04 module and does not show any jumper there. Any insight on this? I'll pull the chassis back out later to trace that white wire out and figure what is going on. The 9-160 series of modules went through many changes & revisions during it's lifetime. That broken jumper and white wire may be normal. The squeal you hear may be caused by a short that's placing a heavy load on the horizontal output circuits; thus, blowing the HOT. Make sure you check all the diodes that are in the area close to the flyback and it might be possible that you have a bad flyback. If that's the case, you'd be better off to find another module. I've used flyback transformers salvaged from other modules; but, a new module would be the best way to go and I'm not so sure that Zenith ever offered that flyback as an individual replacement part.

I did check all the diodes near the flyback and they check good. I have a bad feeling it is the flyback. I already have an Ebay search setup for that 9-160-06 module. Hopefully a NOS or working one will show up. And I'll just keep that existing module for other parts. |

I replaced a lot of those modules back when the set was in warranty, and even after they were out of warranty. They had a massive failure rate when they were first introduced.
Zenith just sold the whole thing and you sent back the core as I recall. Those stupid interconnect cables, the clips used to break easily when they were new, I wonder how they are 30+ years later? |

Those interconnect cables on mine are still in tact. |

This place lists a used 9-160-05A if that will work.
http://www.kenselectronics.com/lists/zenith.htm This place also lists them http://www.relaypoint.net/~arctv/parts/index.html No idea of how reliable either of these are so use at your own risk. |

I kept reading that an 04 will swap with an 06 will swap with an 08. |

I have a Zenith Cross Reference Guide, and go figure.. it doesn't list ANY sub for a 9-160-06.
In order: 9-160 Sub: 9-160-03, 9-160-05 9-160-02 Sub: 9-160-04 9-160-06 9-160-03 Sub: 9-160-05 9-160-04 - 9-160-06 9-160-05 - No sub listed 9-160-06 - No sub listed 9-160-08 Sub: 9-160-05 9-160-09 Sub 9-160-06 So, to add to the fun.. did your set come WITH the 9-160-06, or is the module in yours a sub? (the schematic will tell you) |

The second place lists both a -5 and a two -6 so if they actually stock those numbers you should be set, if the price is reasonable at least.
