Database issue fixed

The site outage was due to Memcache port issue. The instance has been cleared and all should be back to our regular programming.

Good! Now I don't have to see the Doctor for VK withdrawal.

The Amish, while indifferent to your use of technology, nevertheless acknowledge your devoted efforts.

Good to see VK back. I browse and post to this site regularly and frankly, I missed it the short time it was down. My thanks go to the administrators for finding the problem, correcting it and getting the site back online, where it belongs.

I don't know if the Amish people are as indifferent to technology today as they used to be; after all, you are posting to VK using a personal computer, which requires electricity and a telephone or cable TV line to connect to the Internet. If the Amish still shunned modern technology, you would not be posting here, although I read somewhere that the Amish are now permitted to use cell phones, after decades and perhaps generations of doing without them. Times change, and the Amish have little choice but to go along with the changes. That they can now use cell phones is one concession to modern technology; it wouldn't surprise me if these days they have electric lights, automobiles, and most of the things the rest of us take for granted as well.
