I'm privileged to own an example of a very unique looking VCR, the Sony SL-HF2100. Not a single physical button on the unit, and the only switch is for selecting channel 3 or 4 output. Also is apparently the only consumer Betamax deck to sport S-video jacks. It didn't come with the matching remote, but for the price I paid, I'm not complaining too much. Pictures available at the top of this page.

It doesn't have to be a Beta VCR, it just so happens that several of the ones talked about were. It could be VHS, it could be U-Matic, it could be Cartrivision, it could even be V-2000! Speaking of which, here's a beautiful example of a V-2000 VCR from the Danish masters of style, Bang & Olufsen:

Would look right at home next to my Beogram 8000.

I had a temporary partial brain disfunction and posted about the SLV-R1000 S-VHS machine having S-Video connectors and after posting realized you were talking about a consumer Beta having S-Video...

But since ai uploaded it, I'll re-run the picture anyway. Wish I had a pic of one with the door open and the LCD backlit panel lit up with its CCFL tube.

I remember about 10 years ago seeing a stack of these at Fry's on closeout for $499 ea.

Those look really nice with the control panel folded down and lit up. Do you have the original, undamaged remote with this? Someone on eBought wants $1300 (I think) for one whose remote has a cracked screen. There is another remote with it, but it only performs the basic functions.

Unfortunately, my SL-HF2100 didn't come with that (in)famous touchscreen remote. I'd like to find a remote which at least performs the basic functions, but am not sure what to look for. In any case, I think I did fairly well for $20, remote or not.

Whoa, you sure did do well! The remote you want is the RMT-V30. I have been in touch with whomever has that thing listed, just to inquire about the "replacement" remote. Did so last month.
