Mid 1980s Sylvania Superset
Went to the Habitat the other day, and I had to turn away, but then the think twice thinking came to mind, so I had to pick it up, due to the fact that it had the remote with it and was only $5 as they are selling TVs 2 for $5, and the main fact that my mother had bought one of these non remote (Volume on/off knob version) back in 1984 or 85.. Had the TV up till 1993 when the tuner gave out.. I've also got the 25 inch version with it's remote in storage also, It's got tuner problems also.. The channel goes out and I have to change the channel to get the channel again... This one had no sound it first, just slight crackle here and there, but after a few minutes of being on, it fully came back.. Must be electrolytics reforming in the sound amp.. Tuners in these things are that great... It's not able to pick up signal from the modulators all that great.. Where as any other TV and my Sony watchman picks up signal in that location crystal clear.. The only reason I really like these sets, is due to the fact growing up and having one..

The HFH around here doesn't accept TV's anymore. Every so often, they offer recycling for TV's and computers.
The last time, the palletainers were full of LCD TV's and computer monitors. Nothing lost. |

Still a strong pix on this set. They were common sets
especially the 25" table model. Hopefully its a C5 chassis & not a C3. Good catch. 73 Zeno |

I agree the tubes on these sets really hold up.. They really put off a fantastic pic to this day.. The only problem is the tuners on these set start to go.. I remember going to the tire kingdom that was in front of our neighborhood, and they had a knob tuning version of this set, and I remember the pic tube getting dimmer and dimmer.. I know sylvania sets from the late 70s into the early 80s had a great picture compared to other sets..

Now that's a cool looking set. 19 inch? I don't recall seeing one before... certainly not in the wild. Great find, especially since it's like one you used to have, I can dig that. And a tip of the hat for rescuing it since I'd imagine the vast majority are now at the bottom of a landfill.
Bummer about the tuner though. I wonder if the receiver circuit could be rebuilt or "enhanced" for greater reliability. |

If that's a 19" set, it's hard to say what chassis is in it without looking. Years ago, someone gave me one that looked like this and it used an E51 modular chassis. I've also seem them with the E32 single board chassis, the 19C3 chassis (my least favorite), and the 19C5 chassis.

Looking through the small vent holes.. I see a single board... Aren't most of these mid 80s sets have single boards? I think that was around the time where most sets 19 inch sets were pretty much single board sets..
I've got another set that is from 1981.. An older version of the one in the original post:
