Transistor Telefunken Jubilate 201, speaker problem

Hey All, Yesterday was the Nashville Vintage radio club swap meet. One of the things i spy and later win in a auction is this radio."mostly" great sound except on some certain low notes there is a boomy rattle. I peek into the back and see that the speaker to cabinet gasket is a falling apart foam rubber gasket. I remove the speaker clean out the old gasket and make a new one out of some new weather stripping foam. The speaker is a 6 inch all paper cone with no foam surround. I hold up the speaker to the light and i can see daylight all around the edges. I have never seen paper become semi translucent/porous before. Any ideas how to fix this? It has great bass except for those particular notes that rattle the cone.
