Trouble Determining Correct Capacitor Replacement

Hello all,

I'm finally getting around to fully recapping my RCA Victor 21-T-8205. I am ordering my replacement axial film capacitors from tuberadios.com and am having trouble determining which replacement to use. The issue lies in any capacitor that is greater than 700 volts. I need 2x .068 mfd @ 1000V and 1x .0033 mfd @ 1000V. The closest that is offered is @ 650V at the correct capacitance. 1600V radial film capacitors are now offered, but nothing close enough to the values needed are available. Does anyone have advice on which to choose or where else to look?

No problem using 1.6KV rated caps in place of 1KV rated. Does it have to be axial vs. radial?

Axial is preferred, but radial just won't be as pretty. There is no circuit restriction. The Sprague .068uf @1000V are a bit spendy at about 8 a piece with shipping. My current idea is to use 2 0.033uf @1600V (which I can purchase from the site) and placing them in parallel to obtain 0.066uf which is pretty darn close. If this doesn't work out, I may go after the Sprague capacitors.

Unless those caps are in a timing or frequency dependent circuit where value is critical you can use a couple of 630V caps in series.

For the .068uf use a .1uf & a .2uf cap, for the .0033uf use 2 .0068uf.

Chuck

These are good.

Playing around with the filters will get you whatever you are looking for. here is an example.
https://www.mouser.com/Passive-Compo...Ns=Pricing%7c0

It is cheaper* to buy from a major parts supplier like Mouser, Allied, Digikey, Just radios, capacitor world, etc. than ebay....It is also better since the parts from a supply house are new parts not potentially 30 year old stock that may be rapidly running out of shelf life.

*Especially if you plan to work on a lot of sets. Many sites have great price brakes if you buy in quantities of 10, 25, 50, 100 or more. I tend to buy ~1 years worth of parts per order to take advantage of the bulk discounts and save on shipping.
