Saw another sideways-loader on eBay before, a Zenith VR2300.

My question is "Why ?"... There was ENOUGH "Monkey Motion" in these things as there was, WHY add any more ?!?

Because it was cool. There was an upright version of this unit that Zenith made a matching console for - it had a little pocket that the VCR went in.

I have one and it's a very well built, compact unit with good picture quality. The loader was a bit sluggish at first but seems to be ok after a little use, probably needs belts or something.
Mine has some handles that give it a "Rack Mount" look.

No more monkey motion than in your ordinary front-loader, it's all just in a different position.

I like how this setup gives these VCRs the look of 8-track decks.

Excellent picture quality from these little machines. JVC manufactured, JVC and Zenith sold them. Of all the ones I repaired I don't recall ever seeing a front-loading mechanism problem.

I remember when the Zenith version came out. The instructions were on cassette only at first. I was called to a customers house who was beyond angry. As they put it, "If I knew how to hook it up I wouldn't need a manual!"
I wanted to laugh at the marketers who came up with this "brilliant" idea. Needless to say, Zenith got one "letter" from this customer......

That's like telling someone to go online to find out why their internet isn't working.

Never found an 8 track tape in one, but did find all sorts of things in the standard front-loading VCRs. I hadn't realized until one came in that a 7" 45 RPM record would fit in the cassette slot just fine!
