The schematic is on Nostalgia Air. When you open the link, click on the little eyeball to open the schematic.

There are one, maybe two dial lamps. To set the preset stations, if you look through the back of the set at that control panel you'll see (or feel) a small lever (up top I think) that will slide to one side. That will unlock the panel from the cabinet; you'll be able to work it out the front and set the tuning slugs behind each button.

Be careful of rubber coated wire that is cracking. My '42 Zenith is full of it. If you see any of that try not to disturb it any more than you have to.

I figured out how to get the panel off for the preset stations.

There is a spring loaded tab that you push to remove it.

is the plastic some sort of bakelite or something else ?

This radio has a rubber power cord.

Could this be a replacement power cord ?

It has printing on the power cord and it says

e. i. w. corp. 18/2 eastex hpn heater cord

By about 1937 radios had gone to rubber parallel conductor cords similar to the ones used today. If yours says "heater cord" somebody replaced the original. If it's in good shape and installed correctly with strain relief at the chassis outlet, it could be used.
