More Fun In Bed

With a Mitchel Lullaby bed lamp radio.

Found it on the Worlds Longest Yard sale for a few dollars. Chassis cleaned up very nice. The bakelite case had several bad cracks (worst near the tuning dial).

Usual new caps and it's off to find WSM Nashville. Heck the lamp even worked. I might try to fashion a shade with some plexiglass.

I also bought a Norelco (Phillips) AM/FM table radio from the same fellow. It appears to work but has 'issues' and will likely be more of a challenge.

Sorry, could not resist after finding that ad.

That was pretty risque for the 1940s.

The Mitchel has a floating ground so it's a bit safer than the notorious hot chassis radios.

Never ceases to amaze me to see all the iterations & configurations they came up with to try to sell radios back in the day...

True. I had never seen one before. All of the different boxes and styles typically contained a garden variety AA5 or AA6 radio.

I intend on using it though. Problem is my head board isn't tall enough! I'll have to fashion a wall mounting.
