Stylish 1980's Zenith
I recently purchased this set, but I'm missing the remote. It states that it is advanced system 3. It has a unique feature where the channel/volume buttons are located on a panel that hides away above the screen. When you lift the button pad, there are the other settings like the color, and switches to select input sources, etc. It also has a removable tinted glass that fits over the screen. I presume it's some kind of glare filter, or something.
It was manufactured in 1985, presumably in Canada, as the labels are in English and French. I connected a dvd player to the AV input and it worked great. I'm curious if anyone is familiar with the set, and what the remote might look like. Any thoughts and input are appreciated. |

Very rare set, dont remember selling one. The ultra
modern sets didnt sell much so when you can save them. Remote is probably this style & uses a hard to find J battery. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Zenith-Misce...0AAOSwezVWywiy I will look later & see if I can find the part number, if I have the manual. 73 Zeno |

Thank you very much for your reply, and assistance. I figured it must not be very common, as I struggled to find anything online. It was that ultra modern look that drew me to it.
Thank you, again. |

Whoa, sweet! That's an 80s set cool enough to make it into my own collection.
Now you just need a super-skinny VCR to go on top. |

Thanks for the replies. I've never thought of myself as a collector of tv's . . . but, as I think about it, I do have three or more . . . and I believe that is the minimum to consider it a collection. :-)
The other Zenith I have is from the late seventies, I think. It's a system 3 in a console with an Allegro sound system (turntable, stereo, 8 track). The tv is in the middle and is concealed by two sliding doors. Unfortunately, someone has cut the power cord off and snipped some of the turntable wires. Not sure if they were planning to rob the TT for something else, or what. The wires are all still there, just cut. |

I don't think I've ever seen that cabinet style before. Very sharp!

Dont have the manual so no part # for remote, sorry.
Its in Sams 2457. If you get the number, 124-??? you can be sure a new one has the right buttons. The ## is on a white tag under the battery. Most IR Zenith remotes will work it. BTW hows she working ? 73 Zeno |

How about one of these "wrong way loading" Zenith VCRs to go with it?

rpm1200 - I think the "wrong way" vcr would be a nice companion! :-)
zeno - It seems to be a well functioning unit. I don't have cable tv to test the tuner, but I did connect a dvd player to the aux rca inputs and it played nicely. Picture looked bright and the stereo was clearly working, as I could hear sounds in the movie pass from one speaker across to the other. Thanks for checking on the remote for me. I have to be honest, I'm not sure what Sams 2457 refers to. I would definitely like to find a period remote that would work it. So, if you have any, know of any, or whatever, please let me know. In your original reply, you linked to a remote on ebay. Would that one be an appropriate match if I can't find exactly what it had? I guess I tend to go overboard with regards to wanting things as they were originally. :-) |

Sam's technical publishing put out a photofact repair manual that is folder number 2457.
Anyone here that has done TV restoration, or read around a decent amount knows what sam's is.

Okay, now I get the Sams reference. I wasn't familiar with it before. So, it appears that I can get a copy of the original manual for $22 from the website. If the set is as rare as you say, I suppose this may be my only option. If I understand correctly, in that manual will be the "124-???" number that would need to appear on an old remote to ensure it's compatible? Sorry for my confusion.

There was an upright version of that sideways load VCR that Zenith made a matching console. The cabinet had a pocket the VCR would fit in.
