Question Montgomery Ward 1985 information?

Hey guys I have a Montgomery Ward 1985 set I recently acquired and would like to bring it back to tip top shape as it's my oldest set. Only problem is I can't find ANY information on the set at all! The model# is GGD 12305
I'm having a problem with the brightness knob that when I go to adjust it, it kinda goes dark then bright. So I figured why not check the potentiometer. Low and behold it doesn't say the value on the potentiometer so I can't check it. The only thing it says is:
52z
116d
500b
I've tried looking up any info on these numbers and found nothing. Also seems to slightly change color while I'm watching it too.
If anyone has a schematic or any information at all on this set I would be greatly appreciated!

For starters, I'd try cleaning the pot with some tuner cleaner/de-oxit, etc. That can take care of a lot of intermittents. The tint pot might have the same issue, causing your color change. Can you post a picture? Might help us identify who made it. Might have an EIA number on the picture tube label, might even say something like "EIA 188".

Ward's, toward the end, had a few different suppliers. The small sets were Sharp, larger ones were Admiral and GE.

It's likely only the wiper on that pot is bad, so you could measure the resistance end-to-end to find out what value to use to replace it (disonnecting one end and turning the wiper to the other end, of course).

bgadow, I've never cleaned a pot before truthfully. But I can give it a shot if I can find some de-oxit. I will take a picture of the TV tomorrow morning. As for the CRT the only stickers I see are the GoldStar sticker with the CRT # and a small green sticker that says B26. Doesn't seem like any stickers were removed.

dieseljeep, I see none of the names you listed so I'm not sure. Says Montgomery Ward on the front and the back with the manufacture date.

ctc17, That would be awesome if you had the SAMS!

old_tv_nut, I'll try it out and post what I come up with. I'll check the tint while I'm at it too.

Thanks everyone!

Need more information. Read my posts above and verify model number. GGD was never used. Maybe some pix of the inside and front would help

Even Radio shack control cleaner will work OK.
There's a strong possibility that Goldstar built the set.

Hmm not sure. I looked up black stripe sets and they all seem to say black stripe on them. Look me do some looking inside and outside of the set and I'll get back to you with any information I have. It does however have the same RGB color bar graphic on the front.

EDIT: So I looked all over this set and I see nothing but Montgomery Ward on the front and the back. The only thing I see is the GoldStar tube and the sticker on the inside of the case specifying the only 2 tubes you can use with the set and the tube number matches up. There is a auto color button on the front that you can push in and a little green led comes on when compressed. There is a audio jack on the side of the tv set. But other than that all I see is Montgomery Ward and no other names and I see no residue for any missing stickers.

The whole TV was made by GoldStar. Back then, these were considered an economy brand; but, are miles better than anything made today.

Awesome! That's good news at least. Any way of finding some information out on this set? Btw I have some bad news. I hooked up the tube to my Sencore CR-7000 and I have no cutoff at all on the red, green, or blue gun. I'm going to hook up my CR-7000 to another color CRT and see if my cutoff is working properly.

EDIT: Tested another color CRT and cutoff works fine. Tested a small 5" b&w tube and cutoff works on it too. So there is something wrong with the CRT. ='(

Dont worry about cutoff. I bet it will work fine. I have plenty of crt sets that have no cutoff and have great pictures.

Ya I'll go with what you say. The only downfall with the CR-7000 I've noticed is that if there is no cutoff you can't proceed with the emission test. Unless there is a way I don't know of. Now that we know goldstar makes the set do I not look for schematics for Montgomery Ward anymore and start looking for goldstar schematics and info?
I can't find any information under GoldStar either.
