I went to a Chinese buffet in Corsicana, Texas a few years ago that had pizza, corndogs, and french fries. Key word here is buffet. Chinese restaurants as you're thinking of them are a totally different ballgame. Chinese buffets the type of establishment you take the whole family to eat for $cheap$ on Friday night and you want quantity > quality. These places serve mac and cheese to appease the age 10 & under demographic but I guess anyone can eat it if they want.

I will confirm that ! No Mac & Cheese I know of in So. NH or Middlesex & Worcester Co. Mass I know of. Not even chop suey which is NOT
at all Chinese. When chop suey is on the menu its for the kids.

Credentials : The TV shop was in a strip mall & next door to Joyce
Chens Chinese groceries.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Chen_(chef)
Got to know the family well & they were the nicest people.
Joyce had the first Chinese cooking show on WGBH #2 Boston.
Used the same set as the French Chef.
Her son Henry was educated & had a thick Harvard accent. It was
strange to hear ! Anyhows they have confirmed mac & cheese &
chop suey are NOT AT ALL Chinese ! May I recomend Helen Chens
cook book.

Great starter book for Chinese cooking at home.

Well that explains it, I've never once and never will go to any place that has the food all sitting there in trays, WAY too easy to have some idiot with some disease or other sneezing all over the food everyone else is supposed to eat. This is the reason why, in the age of the evil Rona, all the supermarkets in my area have eliminated the "salad bar" .

Say what you will about the cleanliness of the kitchens in ANY restaurants, at least it's only a few employees VS the entirety of the general public having access to your food before you get it ......

Oh, and, BTW Dude, , , , ,

While we're on the subject of "Buffet" VS "Restaurant" , let's not forget it was YOU who asked the title question "What's the LAST restaurant you went to?" and then in your opening post went on about a "different Chinese buffet" . So, you'll have to accept YOURSELF a bit of the blame for the muddied waters here between the two. Now, going on your thread title's actual subject, restaurants, it's quite easy to see where Zeno and I were coming from with our observations of no Mac & Cheese, as we were addressing the title theme of your thread.

I'll take extra Soy sauce with that please........

Came thiiiiiis close to hitting Denny's last night. But I'd already been there the last two Saturday nights and wanted a change. Luckily I saw a Texas Roadhouse across the road that I hadn't noticed before so I went there. Glad I did. Good deal on a decent meal. 6-oz. sirloin and Chicken Critters with a salad and sweet potato for $25 with a drink.
