How can i extend a flyback cable?
Not sure where else to put this. I have a TV with a very short Flyback wire on the anode of the CRT. I would like to extend the flyback wire, but i am unsure about how to do that without the wire arcing over through heatshrink. has anyone done this before?

First off if it's the HV wire to the CRT then it's not connected to the flyback, but rather it's connected to the bottom of the HV rectifier tube.
Extending the existing wire is not a great idea because as you said it is hard to keep it from arcing. The best thing to do is get an entirely new HV lead. What I do is watch the curbs for 90s BPC TVs and steal the HV lead off of those (along with some other parts). You can also buy solid state era flybacks with the HV lead on them (from eBay etc) and steal the lead. In a pinch non-resistive spark plug wire could work but it's larger diameter can be problematic. Once you have a new HV lead solder it to the bottom of the HV rect where the old one connected. It isn't ideal to have excessive HV lead slack in some cases so extend in moderation. If you were in a circumstance where you absolutely had to patch the original wire (the CTC-4 HV wiring that has special connectors molded onto it could pose such an issue) I'd probably clean the insulation with isopropyl then once dry encase the soldered splice in a large blob of silicone caulk.

Looks like that may be the easiest solution then. Thanks
