NOS 4" b&w from Ali Express

So I saw this bad boy being posted about online and decided to order one. They are apparently either NOS Toshio or Sony sets (probably a clone?)

Only 10 bucks, but 26 with shipping.

It's my birthday, a bad one. One that ends in a zero.. so I saw this and bought myself a present.

Wish me luck, I'll update when i see how good or bad this lil cutey really is.

CRTs still live in 2022! It will be fun to see how well it works when you get it.

$26, don't you deserve more than that on your "F-word" or "S-word" birthday?

(Or is it an E word or N word?)

Giant "B" and the part number on the PCB scream Sony but
it just dont look Sony. May be a complete Chi-Com copy down
to the markings. Interesting......

That's a CCTV and intercom for an apartment or office entrance.

Magnavox had a 4 inch CRT set called an Escort back in '85 or so. I see them on Ebay and there is even an Escort 2. The prices are about what you paid.

That looks like the same one that Adrian Black on YouTube did a video on:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cU9x23w4YE

He has the schematic in his video, which should help you get it hooked up.

Neat. Looks like it's 50hz PAL. Might be interesting getting a NTSC signal into it

I keep seeing more and more of these little black and white CRT tvs popping up all over amazon, alibaba ect. I almost wonder if there is some factory in China that is actually still making them or recently decided to start back up because of renewed interest in CRTs.

I have one of those and it works very very well. I use it to check my modulator system.

Well, it works very very well if there are no magnets around.

Hi to all,

The Chinese 4" flat CRT type 04MC has a TOSHO "made in China" label, see photo.
The Sony 4" WatchMan model FD-40A has a 4" CRT designated as 04JM, see extract from schematic.

Questions:
- does TOSHO manufacture in China using a Sony licence?
- unlicenced clone?

Unless the Sony patents have already run out, i don't see Sony sitting back doing nothing if someone stole their design.
From memory, WatchMans appeared circa 1983, so +20 years forward the patents have indeed expired.

Best Regards

I remember seeing something a while back saying that they would no longer support their analog products. So, most likely, they don't care.
