1980s Magnavox & Zenith color TVs

At a church that has frequent rummage sales, I found two 19" color TVs from the '80s. One is a Magnavox from 1983 and it uses a single-knob varactor tuner. It works, but unfortunately, the tuner access cover is missing and the CRT is a bit soft. When I can dig out my rejuvenator, I'll give it a boost. As far as the door, who knows when, or if, I'll be able to find one. The chassis is a 19C3, which I'm not overly crazy about. The older C2, C1, and T809 were better.

The second one is a Zenith Space Command from 1986 and, for the most part, this one seems to work OK and has a good jug. These sets were made until about '92-'93, but the later ones had the crappy Zenith jug in them. This one uses a 9-470 main module and one of the cabinet back screws is missing, which tells me that someone has been in it (likely to repair the start-up circuit from a lightning strike).

When I asked for a price, she had to send a picture of the sets to the preacher (which, seems to be more of a common occurrence there). He came back with $20/each, I firmly said "NO!", then they said $15, I said $10 and they took it. One day, I'll spruce them up and get them going as close to 100% as possible.

The C-3 was a dog IMHO. The most over engineered NAP set ever.
I got the training manuals for it & the console ( C-5 ? ). I
still cant really understand them. Lots of bad FBT's in them.
C-1 & C-2 IMHO were the best the NAP gang ever built, I loved them !
But like the GE PC & Admiral M-30 they were only around a short time.
Junk was coming fast.

The Zenith was a solid mid level set. Sets sold as "Advanced System 3"
were the step up & full featured & quite good. CRT's were still very good.

C U Later
LFOD !

I have a smaller Magnavox (13 inch?) with that same single knob tuner. It's interesting.
