Local antique store ripoff

I was at a local antique store and they were selling a few small electrohome radios for $100 each. They looked something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...Name=WDVW&rd=1

They were also trying to sell a Bill Cosby Coca Cola pin for $13. No thanks.

Was this at an antique store by a single owner or was it an antique mall?
The following conditions sometimes happen at malls:

1. Some mall dealers are not antique experts and do not know real market value for all goods so they will try to sell too high.

2. The dealer has a high "nut" to cover each month just to pay the mall rent so they will often price high in the hopes of making back their investment.

3. Most times overpriced goods will not sell...go back in several months or a year and the items will likely still be there. YOu are a lot better position to dicker with them on it then.

I don't know whats happened to the pricing at pawn shops and junk stores. But I've seen prices on rusted-busted-can't be trusted radios, televisions, guitars, etc. that exceeds what you'd pay for those items new!

My favorite items are Fischer beer bottles (nice brown old style bottle with a porcelian compression top) being sold for 5-6$ each. I can buy them full of beer for 3-4 bucks each. Now if I could enough suckers...er...antique collectors...to buy them, I could make a profit by drinking good beer!

No, liquor does not make you charming. That's what peyote is for.

Heard that pawn shops will search ebay to see what similar items sold for.

It was a barn type store that sold items by consignment. People bring in their stuff and the people at the cash just rent them the space to sell the stuff. They also were selling corn that they said was picked fresh that day...when I cooked it up it tasted like cow corn....only my stomach doesn't have 3 chambers to help me digest it.
