My little triumph
After ten years of working on this off and on, I finally got this damn set going.
ONLY after I tore it completely down and rewired it like a kit! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ivkSnE3M1s |

The M-1419 was probably his military serial number. They began with the first letter of the person's last name. I had one for a couple of months before they switched over to using your SSN. Whenever anyone wrote to you they were supposed to include your SSN in the address.
Identity theives would have had a field day with that. Not sure when they stopped using the SSN. John |

Wow! Good job!
Does anybody know if Metz worked with Emerson on this set? It is amazingly similar to the Emerson #558 (Photofact 481-11, 1/48). The Emerson measures about 8.5" x 4.25" x 2.5". jr Last edited by jr_tech; 06-09-2017 at 07:00 PM. |

I was thinking the same thing. They look pretty similar. BTW Great Job on it resto Bill. Enjoyed looking at some of your battery building videos. I had one of those little red Motorola portable was like a 6" cube the front flipped up exposing the very pretty chrome grille think it was a model 5A1 Anyway that thing drove me nuts! Every time I'd get it working go to put it back in the cabinet it would quit. Seems like when we are working on any of these sets with 1.5v tubes they are very sensitive to a lot different things that their 6.3v big brothers aren't.Stray capacitance, any sort of poor connection, or even just a little dirt can really stop these little guys from working. Lower voltages, Lower currents and higher operating impedance's all spell everything's got to be right in order for it to work well. And trying to find some of these bugs that will drive you crazy
