Speaker Grille Cloth Options (Hallicrafters / National)
I have a National HRO-50T that I am finishing up restoration on. The speaker has grille cloth that's all silver in color with a rectangular block pattern in the weave much like a CBS-era Fender amp. It doesn't seem as though this is the original National cloth -- somehow it seems to me that there ought to be some red in the color to contrast it more against the dark silver finish of the cabinet. Has anyone found a source for grille cloth that looks good with the HRO-50 / HRO-60 line?
I also have two Hallicrafters speakers -- an R-46, which has what looks like once was beige or sand-colored flocking, and an R-46B which has black flocking. Could grille cloth of similar or same coloring and texture be substituted for the flocking, or is there a better restoration approach? |

You can get flocking kits at crafts stores, various colors, and can reflock the original screen wire.
