The 'Ampexes I Have Loved' thread

Many, but most remarkable was ACR-25. 24-cassette 2" random spot player, 200msec lock time <10sec cycle time, most remarkable for the mid 70s.

War stories, or theory-of-operation questions, welcome. I knew this machine inside out, never admired one more.

Rotating carousel was fast/powerful, hazardous when servicing ?
Competition: room-sized, 'fuel-efficient' RCA cartridge machine

And you could sure hear the vacuum capstans on this one. Love the satisfying clunks as it goes into play.
