JVC HR-D470U detects and plays EP only
Hello all,
I have two HR-D470U's one as a spare for parts. The best one of the two, when you insert a pre-recorded movie, the deck switches to EP and plays (of course) slow. I'm only interested in recording HIFI audio with this unit. I have swapped the capstan motors with the same result on both but I suspect this is an electronic detection issue. Hoping maybe someone had run in to this problem and solved it. Many thanks in advance. |

What happens when it makes its own recordings at both SP and EP? Will it playback those correctly?

It still switches to EP. Ill try an EP recording and see what happens there.

I'm suspecting something is wrong with the control track circuit. Typically most VHS machines default to SLP/EP on playback unless they detect SP or LP control track pulses. Do the recordings made on this machine play fine on other machines?

Yes, that's the next question.

I had the same problem but just in reverse on a similar JVC model, it would only play SP tapes, either commercially recorded or home recorded, and could not track LP or EP tapes. After 2 deep cleanings it then played all tapes fine. A few months later I did notice that it did have problems tracking tapes that went back and forth between SP and EP (home recording) to the point where it went from fast speed to slow. However, that only occurred on a few tapes from the same batch so I'm thinking it was because of the original recording VCR.

I recently repaired my HR-D470U. It was a couple of hi ESR caps in the control circuit. I think I made a post here about it.
