Dodge Warlock

Thought I'd share the latest addition to the fleet. This is my 1978 Dodge Warlock. It was bought new by a family friend, a Mopar guy from way back. He always kept it garaged & never ran it very hard. About 2 years ago he decided it was time to let it go, and my father was interested. Dad had it refinished/restriped, had the 318 "massaged" (well, after he ran it too hard and spun a bearing he had to do something!) and added the side pipes. Sadly, my father fell ill with cancer about a year ago and he passed away February 2015. I had wanted to have some good talks with Dad over this last year but he rarely felt up to it; during one of the best heart-to-heart talks he told me he wanted me to have his truck. It's actually a little too nice for my fleet! She runs great; I need to do a few minor things, including getting the 8 track to work again Yesterday, as a tribute to Dad, I held it to the floor from a stop. No, she didn't squeal, but sounded really good and that 727 is the best shifting transmission I've ever driven. Don't worry, my foot isn't that heavy, so it won't see such abuse on a regular basis!

Nice set of wheels.

Reminds me of the story of my grandpa's last truck. He always had old junky ones, and in his last few years my Mom helped him collect payment for some work that his previous 'financial consultant' bungled long ago. He got so much he decided to buy a brand new truck, and did so, but only had it something like a few months to 3 years before he fell upon bad health and passed....
IIRC that truck is still in the family, but not well kept or appreciated....

well MD has started spraying super salt on the roads and it takes months to fully wash away....

I recommend you pull off the bed, clean and coat the frame

numbers match means a lot, but there are year appropriate 360s for that no?

you can easily get it to a point where it is the mortal enemy of tires

edited to add:

oh and I had better see that in the 'fun field' at the least at carlisle truck nats this year or else...it aint that far.

So that's why you haven't been around much. I'm sorry to hear that.

Anyway, awesome truck. Gotta love the factory 8-track too.

This is one rig I only plan on using in nice weather. I keep it in Dad's garage, at least partly because my stepmother likes seeing it sit there. It's been hard lately to find a few dry days in a row.

One scary thing from this winter: after getting it titled in my name I decided to take it home for the weekend. The weather was clear but COLD and dipped down to the single digits. I jumped in it one morning and cranked it up; there was a squeal followed by smoking rolling out from under the hood. Seems that, despite the recent freshening of the engine by a "professional" builder, there was hardly any antifreeze in the mix! Yep, water pump was froze solid. Blessedly, after some thawing with a hair dryer everything was back to normal and I've driven a couple hundred miles since then without problems.

That's a really nice truck Bryan! Glad you are keeping her.

My regrets are not keeping my low mile '67 GTO.. Owned it twice, last seeing her in 1987.
The other one I foolishly sold while in the business was my 1969 R/T Charger.

Nice truck Bryan, and those seats-wow! The Li'l Red Express seemed more common.
Sorry about your Dad. Its very hard to lose a family motorhead.

That 318 is about the toughest engine made in regards to overheating. The demo-derby boys up north of here swear by them.
But for winding them out, its not the first I heard of a spun bearing.
Once had a neighbor with a red '69 Dart - put on 340 heads, intake, headers etc, with no work down below.
One 4th to 3rd downshift at a high speed and it was knock-knock-knock.
You cannot hot-rod a 318 unless you get 340 pistons/crank etc. down below.

You'll make your next run up here in that beauty, right?

Bring the Westinghouse console if you do, there is a GE G-95 here with your name on it

Dave, sooner or later the Warlock will make it to PA...I think it's the only thing in the fleet that hasn't made it up that way! No AC, might need to be a fall trip. That Westinghouse will keep you busy for a few nights, a "tough dog". Really cool dial, though, which is why I saved it all these years. I won't forget!
