Annoying brightness issue in Zenith CCII's

I first noticed this on my 1976 13" CCII, now I'm noticing it with my 1976 19" CCII. In order to get some shows bright enough to watch, you have to crank the brightness and contrast, but when you do that, the TV guide becomes WAY too bright. I like watching my 19" delta gun CCII, but that constant readjustment is a pain. You can see in the top right, the actual program looks normal, but the guide is extremely harsh.

Looks like a problem from the cable provider... On our Dish guide the preview screen in the corner is well balanced brightness wise to the text.
Is the full screen program too dark as well or is it a better match to the guide text?

Unfortunately, Charter does not provide a full screen on 95% of the channels. I HATE that. On all my other sets, the program brightness and guide brightness is not like this. It is normal and does not require constant adjustment.

Not normal. Looks overloaded. Try unhooking one leg of the
matching transformer & see if it gets better. Also there is a "C2 adj"
pot on the IF strip you can try. RF AGC on 9-87 turn till you get
snow then go back until it just clears up. Watch for cold joints on
the long resistor pack on the 9-88-#, wickid common.

Most CCII's have a pushbutton for secondary controls (brightness, contrast etc.) Try cleaning this switch or work it a few times and see if that intermittent brightness problem clears up.
