What is that on the jack panel?

Kind of looks like a "plug" end of a coax cable that would normally go on a 75 Ohm post. This was on one of the sets at the rummage store today.

I think you are supposed to plug it into the coax jack on the panel...when you are NOT hook9ng to coax cable. Otherwise...you hook your coax cable TO that line..

We can't see it due to photo quality, but what does the label right beside the jack say?
Could be a loop-thru output to a VCR (after internal 300 to 75 ohm conversion).
What is the other cable -- the one without the white stripe?

Yep, that's what it is. When you're connecting 300 ohm twin-lead, you plug the pigtail coax plug into the hole and that connects the 300 ohm terminals in the circuit.

So it's an output to the VCR, then?

That makes sense. It saves about 2 or 3 transformers to go from 300ohm to 75 and thru the VCR and back to 300 for the tv.

NO the short coax goes direct to the tuner. If you are using
ears or other 300 ohm for VHF you plug the coax into the
hole & use the screws. Its just part of a matching transformer.
Very common arrangement, sometimes use jumpers also.

I see. Somebody probably removed the jumper years ago and lost it.

The short coax is hanging down out of the picture on the left. It's a late 80's Panasonic.

Oh I see it now. Thanks! All of the tvs I have owned have either been coax only or twin lead only. I have never had one with a mix of the two. The late 80s must have been a confusing time for televisions!
