Exclamation Answer on unusual PM

I received an unusual PM with a request from somebody which I have
to answer by email without knowing the person.
No real name or forum nick is given.

So here is the answer:

A
Yes, I own a nice collection of vintage japanese TV sets, incl. 5 roundies.
But I sell nothing of it, the japanes market is empty.
50s sets, just the sets up to about 1958 are hard to find, mostly knobs
are missing (a japanese desease) and "hightowers" of mice.
I had a good friend in Japan who bought me these rare stuff over many years.
What I know is that I shouldn`t find them ever again, so no sale.
As a foreigner it is impossible to buy in Japan from internet-sites.
Japan is still a closen country.
My former friend never wanted to talk to other collectors that he ships
collector sets out of the country.
A boss of a japanese collector club never wanted to help me to get
some schematics for radios and TVs I bought.
I have to say that he was the most unfriendly person I ever met in the
collector scene.
So I bought old literature, including schematics, sales literature, manuals,
radio mags to learn more about radio and television in Japan.
SORRY, BUT I CANNOT READ THE JAPANESE LETTERS!
I don`t own the 14" Sharp you are looking for. I own 2 mid 50s 17" Sharp consoles
which are not for sale.
Sharp never sold roundies to the public, they were too modern.
The sets were unusual expensive, sold in low numbers up to the mid 50s.

B
I own three T-2 Leningrad sets, but I couldn`t decide to sell number 3.
Because of the actual political situation in Germany I can`t decide to
sell it for money, gold or a swap against a yard in Switzerland.

C
Last year I hit country number 25.

Did you receive/read this message in your email inbox or in the private messages link that appears on the top right of any VK web page (when your logged into VK)?
If your read it on VK's webpages then it should be impossible for the sender's username to be hidden. If you read that message via your email then you probably did not receive a PM but rather an email through VK (though the sender's username should be displayed in that too).

If you left click on anyone's username in one of their posts a series of options should appear which include "Send a private message to..." and "send email to...". I believe there is an option to prevent direct email contact in your user control panel, that you might want to enable.

I'm not sure why you would choose to respond publicly to a private message over sending an email? You can't get a virus by sending a message. And if your afraid of getting a virus in a reply email from them, then write that you will not read any future emails by that person, nor respond to them, and if they wish to further converse with you then you will only do so via PMs on VK (and follow through by deleting any strange emails without reading)...Or you could simply ignore them.

Changing gears, sounds like you have an interesting collection of Japanese and foreign TVs. Have you posted pictures of them on the internet? I'd love to see some of these sets.

What TV did is logical to me, whether a PM or real email. (Don't know about the particulars of cloaking the identity of the original sender, though.)

He wanted to answer cordially, instead of ignoring, in case it was from a real, active member. But he wanted to prevent them from having his real email address, which would be visible in an emailed reply.

If they contacted him by the email link, it would normally show their email, but that can be spoofed. It shouldn't show TV's real email unless he responds by email.

Being unable to respond by PM, but wanting to respond somehow, I think he chose wisely.

But Tom C. you are rightly curious about how a PM could be sent without "sender" info.
Forum-funneled email, too...

Chip

YOU GOT IT!

I keep the privacy clean of the unknown member by not showing up the real email of him.
However you can have 100s of email adresses, free from asian or arabian countries.
I don`t see a criminal background in that case, but had something like that 2
times years ago in a "sister" forum!
There are readers which are no collectors, just Go-og-le helped them to find me/my opinions.
If somebody logged in just to contact you and never wrote later something related inside a forum,
keep alert and stay alive!

I received the request via my regular email "embedded" from videokarma. But I cannot
find more details after logging in.

Anyway, watching and loving "Naked City"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNYU...f-7LsQ&index=9
there was an episode explaining the strange characters of COLLECTORS!
Sorry, but I don`t know the original US-title.

I placed pictures in the past in forums. Since I own a new used photographer I can`t make
HQ pictures because I don`t have a flasher for professional use.

I know, I have to solve this problem.......

Happy Weekend,
TV-collector

That was my email that I sent through the forum. I had no idea it would be sent anonymously. I also didn't see this reply when you posted it, I just sort of stumbled upon it right now...lucky I guess . Anyway thank you for the answers to my questions. You are lucky to have 5 roundies from Japan, especially given the difficulties you described in getting them.
