Trinitron KV-1920D power supply

Does anyone own this TV? I have one with a transistor that is missing the face so I am not sure what to replace it with. I could not find any schematics for this tv so I have to find someone who has one and can look at theirs.

Thanks! Even though this TV has cataract issues I would love to get it going.

Never heard or known a Sony CRT to have a catarac issue. I have a Sams for the KV-1920. Can you include a photo of what your looking for?

I have mostly seen Zenith sets with Cataracts, but in the shop this Tv came from there were a few more cataracted Trinitrons. I regret not getting them, but I filled my wagon to the roof then drove 5 hours.

Anyways, here is a picture of where the transistor was. I removed it to examine it with a meter and see what could be done to find a replacement. This tv did power on but I accidentally bridged something when checking voltages. It did have issues with not picking up whatever was fed into it, but that will come later. The goal is to bring it back to life and use it next to a KV-1913.

I have a SAMs set 1627 folder 2 and the parts list identifies it as an 2SC926A. Unfortunately the SAMs doesn't have Sony's part number for it. It's a Sylvania ECG 154, a RCA SK3024, or a GE-220. It is identified in SAMs as Q601.It is the error amp in the PS circuit. Looks like it ties to the 135VDC adjustment. Good luck.

Can I see a picture of the cataract? I just want to see a Sony Trinitron with one. Never heard of it happening on a Sony before.

OK I assume you removed an exploded transistor from there.
Reason I ask is sometimes there are changes & parts can be
missing. You can see a few blank spots in the pix.

BTW this set uses an SG613 for a horz output. They blow very
easy so dont slip ! If it goes it will also blow the regulator
( 2SC867 IIRC ) & maybe more. In other words " requiesce in pace"
for Mr. Sony.

BTW #2 I have never seen a Sony with a cataract either & I did
a stretch a Sony factory service.

The bad transistor was removed and I actually replaced the transistor with an equivalent of the other small transistor on the board. That transistor seemed to be the same as the blown one when poking around and it seems to have been, but your answer is great and I will have to bookmark this page for reference since this board is causing issues.

After replacing the transistor and a bad diode, this tv now turns on, but it has severe picture issues so this TV has another thread on it. So far I don't have much faith in this tv but I'll try my best to save it.

It seems a lot of people have not seen a cataract on a Sony. This TV was very abused and was left to rot in a building of over 50 other TVs, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Severely leaking, unheated, unairconditioned, shop abandoned for 20 years with closer to 100 TVs. This was the set the guy had above his work bench hooked to a roof antenna to watch TV while he worked. I can also verify there were some really bad cataracts on some of the trinitrons in there.

I was part of the expedition, I just figured I'd fill in information.

Best not to start multiple threads on the same set. It hides important info/past work by scattering it and it also pollutes the forum with duplicate topics...
