Need Advice Re: Heads

Last night I was working on my Canon VR-HF600 (Panasonic) VCR - the grease had gummed up in the loading mechanism and I disassembled and cleaned it well and relubed the gears. There was a little drag with the arms that stretch the tape over the head. While applying a little grease to the track I got a dab on the head drum itself.

Good Grief.

I cleaned it with alcohol immediately, but it appears the damage is done.

Is there anything else I can try? If not, where can I get a replacement head drum assembly for it? I called MCM but they said they no longer sell them.

You might try a little contact cleaner on a Q-tip. I used to use a really soft bristle baby tooth brush for really stubborn ones. Never had one damaged using it. It might take several cleanings.
I also used a good quality head cleaning tape afterwards.

Have no fear. I've cleaned up much bigger messes than that. Naphtha aka lighter fluid ought to clean off that grease. Clean it a few times. Then 1st tape you try should be one you can dispose of if it sticks to the drum, should not be an irreplaceable tape.
