Some interesting patents...
A thread in the Early Color Forum got me to finally put together a list of patent "finds" that I had on an older Win Vista machine. Here's some interesting TV related patents:

Neat, and I took apart a four-lead cap just a couple of days ago trying to see how it works. It was poorly installed and I have two NOS units of the same value so why not. I got photos of the mangled end of a very tightly-wound roll of foil and plastic film. I also took apart a 2-leader for comparison. I assume the narrower pair of strips is the interlock.
Hard to see details I know, so here are the full-res pics for anyone interested. https://www.flickr.com/photos/spacec...7683846157245/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/spacec...7683846157245/ Last edited by Jon A.; 05-17-2017 at 04:33 AM. |

Tnx findm interesting stuff. Another Zenith one was the spark
gaps used in late CC2 & up. It actually worked ! We found sets hit by lightning where it was melted & blackened but the sets kept running. Only found out when the set was opened for other unrelated problems. Lightning work used to be gravy work. Only had one Admiral destroyed by a direct antenna hit. It blew a PCB to shreds. When cable TV came along it became the great destroyer of TV sets. The ground for the cable completed a circuit that common power line hits could use to send a huge surge through everything. 73 Zeno LFOD ! |
