Rare 1952 Sparton set only available to military officers

Where do they even get these ideas?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/263223369374

Rare 1952 console tv. There are a few scratches on this piece. It was donated to us from the original purchasers family. This piece was originally only offered to military officers, which is how the family got it. It was appraised at 3,000 3 years ago, but that was with the original purchase receipt and paperwork. Those have been lost, thus bringing down the value some.

It is possible someone in the original purchaser's family made up some dumb story some decades ago, it got passed down a generation or two of trusting relatives and some dipstick appraiser and or ebay dealer took the fake 'provenance' story as gospel...And there it sits and sits and sits...Till the price drops to sane territory, or the frustrated owners trash it.

When I see such fiction in details, I seriously doubt there was ever an appraiser that even looked at the set.

Appraised for $3k? By who, name names or it's BS.
It was probably $30.00 and someone forgot the decimal.

Nice set but probably $100-$150 is more like it, if the CRT is good. As for the Military thing, it might have been sold through the PX, there were some things made specially for the Military Exchanges just like there's stuff made just For Costco with slightly different model numbers, doesn't make it worth a fortune.

Of course, "eBay" hype, trying to make a sale. Who knows, someone may bite.
