Hi - I am new to all of this - so not sure if I am in the right place. I have a 1950 Dumont TV 19 inch consolde - mahogany with doors RA 109-A2 Model. I am not sure what to do with it. Post it on Ebay? I have no idea of the value. Can someone help me determine what the value is of this TV? It worked until sometime in the 50's when a tube blew and then my parents just bought a smaller TV. Hasn't been used since. Would appreciate any info or advise that you have. Maybe it is just me, but it seems kind of creepy that old family pictures are being sold, or bought, by "strangers". There are some interesting TV sets in those pictures, though.

Reminds Me of that Robin Williams movie "One Hour Photo," when he was living his (pathetic) life thru other people's family photos.

Yes, it's very strange. And looks like it is a world trend, because, here in Brazil, people are more or less doing the same thing - disposing off of old family pictures, that ends up in the hands of antique dealers.

The guys here in this forum who are from Europe and Australia can say if in those parts of the world this sad thing is also happening?

Guess this makes me appreciate my relatives who do the genealogy research when they argue with one another over who gets what photos. I know for a fact those photos will never end up for sale like this. I don't know why anyone would want to dispose of their family history in such a way.

It does seem strange, now that I think of it. :scratch2: But a reason may be that these essentially random pictures show the fashions of clothes, furnature and of course TV sets over the years.

There's also something even crazier than that happening here. There are people from humble backgrounds, who became rich, and now... well, let's say that they are ashamed of having poor ancestors, so... they want to have a more "presentable" ancestry to show in the high-society, so, what they do? They are BUYING old photos of families from the rural aristocracy of the "coffee barons" that ruled Brazil between 1850 and 1929 ( Brazil was the largest producer of coffee in the world during that period, and, until 1889, the country was ruled by Emperors, so many of these "coffee barons" actually were granted with titles of nobility; when the Great Depression came, the coffee economy ended abruptly, and most, if not the majority of these so-called "nobles" went bankrupt... today their grandchildren use the subway to go to work ) and are presenting those photos pretending that they are pictures from their REAL families!!! Now, THAT is sick!!!

Now, I think one must have the most futile of minds to do that kind of thing!!!

But, well, this craziness is really a Brazilian trait, I think. After the Emperor was dethroned and the Republic established, many millionaires here, even those who came as humble immigrants and founded factories, went to the Vatican in the first decades of the XXth century and bought titles of nobility... yes, during those days, the Pope SOLD these kinds of titles to whoever had the money to buy them!!!

Now that is just wrong. I never knew that there could be so much secrecy and taboo behind seemingly innocent picture sales. :nono:

It looks like someone broke the glass seal at the end of the neck and the rush of air blew the phospher off the center of the screen. Of course I was told this, I never broke a seal on one in a dump and got the same results when I was 10 or 11 years old. honest:nono:
