Its 480v, not 460v. There is certainly nothing special about it. 277V single phase is not a commonly used term, 480 single phase is however. While it may be a misnomer, this is what they're called: 277 or 480 single phase for a hot/neutral or two hots respectively.

There are so many combinations of voltages(delta, Y, high legs),
that could turn into a looong discussion. Regions...
The newest thing comercially is clean computer power, 200% neutrals, isolated grounds.
Tons of money wasted, there's a transformer in every computer, there is your clean power. A surge suppression power strip and you are good, sometimes I wish they realized that, but then again a paycheck is nice too.
