Ironic that the commercial itself has only limited color, unless that is because of its age/condition. But, if you are advertising color to a B&W audience, they would not see it anyway. In fact, this sort of conundrum always amused me in later years... I would see a commercial for a nice color TV set, with a glowing description of the set's features and picture quality, then they would show the set's screen in action. Umm, it looks exactly as good as the TV I already have, because it is ON the TV I already have! :)

Do you suppose this commercial is from the roundie era, even though it does not show one?

I'm sure that film is old Eastmancolor, which turns really red over time. The color when it was made would have been rainbow colored.

Im also sure it was advertising roundie sets.

The animation could be Terrytoons, too. I tend to agree with the UPA animation, though.

Some of the "Terrytunes" stuff is great,I especially like the manic style of Jim Tyer, you can spot scenes he animated a mile away.

If you watch Hal Seegers "Batfink" cartoon from the 60's (a very underated show) you can tell immediately which episodes he did because the characters continuously go "off model" and the animation is so exaggerated!

I also really appreciate Gene Deitchs work for MGM where he created some very modernistic and beautifully bizzare Tom & Jerry cartoons.
If you've never seen them,it's like they came from another planet!
The music is very spacey and surreal and the characters move in an odd dreamlike fashion.

I learned later they were animated in Prague which probably accounts for some of the weirdness.

Check out the wildy futuristic tv set in this episode!

The wonderful world of color

This commercial debuted on Disney's wonderful world of color. If it wasn't enough of an insult to B & W owners to watch a showed called the wonderful world of color, Rca helped drive home the point that getting a new color tv was the only way to enjoy your favorite programs in color.

I remember being so envious in 1961 watching the world of color and not having a set to enjoy it on. I fixed that problem in 1962.

Thanks "oldtvman"
That's a much better print of the commercial, the colors are still pretty nice!
I like how the used a harp to accent the radiation rings transmitting from the RCA logo.
By the way,I like your Mr. Magoo icon!
