You're referring to the prototype, right? Even if the set could be restored (it's incomplete) could it ever produce a color picture? This chassis appears to be from the early evolutionary period of NTSC.

I can program my converters for whatever standard this set uses. I currently generate signals for the British experimental 405 NTSC and SECAM, so whether this set uses some form of early NTSC or dot sequential, there would not be a problem generating a signal for the set if it ever becomes operational.

It could be a prototype of the receiver RCA demo'ed to the FCC in December 1950. In those days they were using a circuit that sampled the three color primaries one at a time at 3.58 mc. Would be a bear to reverse-engineer and restore. But...

Does that mean it had seperate inputs for the 3 primary colors, or received a signal containing color info for all 3?

Holy crikey!!!!! It is AMAZING what shows up on Ebay, I don't think I've even seen any photos of such a prototype on the ETF site, so this is a new discovery!!!!! I hope ETF will pounce on that prototype and have it proudly on display at the musuem!!!!! :D

Why not? A CT-100 with a good tube should easily be worth that much.

Like today, it was a single carrier system containing luminance, chroma, and sync. However, if this is a 1950 set, that would be before Philco introduced quadrature modulation to the mix. The set would include bypassed monochrome circuitry, but probably not constant luminance developed by Hazeltine; it probably used the RCA system that sampled the R, G, and B at 120 degree intervals.

Again, the set would have to be reversed engineered and its expected transmission system reproduced by Darryl's magic.

Hopefully the museum gets this to restore. Even if set was half the price wouldn't be interested, the shipping charges have gone up past several years. I sure RACS could do something w/ crt. The seller would be wise to lower price if doesn't sell. maybe someone would bid if complete? Does museum have schematic of power supply? Has got to be at least several hundred dollars to duplicate a large enough transformer supply to power set.
