The business model over at CBS is one of a syndication machine. Many of their programs make money well beyond their original air date. Ironically NBC buys many of the syndication rights to CBS programs via the USA Network.

Whatever problems NBC has now, they are certainly not related to Jay Leno. His show is still the TOP rated late-night show, including among the "most-desired" 18-to-49-year-old group.

Putting Jay Leno in prime time was a brief, "What were they thinking? We have to DO something!" response to whomever thought they should replace him with Conan O'Brien on the Tonight Show. Once NBC figured how to recover from that mistake, they restored Jay Leno to the Tonight Show and regained their long-time ratings lead.

I do not remember any big bunch of "good" NBC shows being cancelled to make room for Jay Leno in prime time, either.

Back to the Admiral TV. After some more searches I found this picture of a 1961 Admiral Color TV. It has the seperate glass. I'm guessing this one I'm looking at is probably 1962-1963. I plan on going back within the next week or so and having him fire it up and hopefully make a deal. He is also willing to part with a Philco 48-1000!

And they don't take up as much floor space as the "fat boys" do!! You can put more in one room! :D

The one Admiral roundie I gave away was from 1963 or so, was a CTC-12 clone.

Perhaps he came up with a $350 price tag because he's selling it by the pound! It does indeed look quite heavy! :D

I bet that set will look really really nice once it's cleaned up, and with some new material covering the speakers.

That 1963 Admiral is siting waiting for restoration , the fly tests good so it will be tackled in the up coming months, slight cataracts but unsure how bad they will look until it is up and running , hopefully not anoying , i'd hate to try to get that crt out and remove the bonded safety glass.

Well.....Sam decided not to get this set, but was kind enough to work with me to help me get it, so now it's sitting in my living room. I'll start another thread with some more pix.

that second admiral picture azbigsam has looks the same cabinet as my g e cabinet ,but with different crt bezzel and tuner face, thats what i was looking for in a early thread if anyone else used this style of cabinet but with different staining and finishings.

David Roper 04-21-2013 03:02 AM

Those cabinets are quite similar in appearance but are definitely not the same.

snelson903 04-21-2013 04:45 AM

i dint mean a 100 percent the same cabinet ,there are clear differents but its the close's iv seen yet . theres like 5 yrs differents to im just wanting to get an idea what that style would look like with a darker stain and alittle more chrome on it, the ge looks so plain almost like something missing or more they could have added to it.
